Malibu, Calif. - The No. 19 Pepperdine women's soccer team fell to No. 3 UCLA, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Frank W. Marshall Field in Los Angeles, Calif. The loss broke Pepperdine's seven-game unbeaten streak as the Waves fell to 6-2-2 on the season.
Immediately, UCLA (7-2) came out strong taking four shots and three corner kicks before taking the lead at the 11:04 mark when Lauren Cheney scored off of a free kick outside the box. Midfielder McKenzie Hill, who has scored a goal in the last three of the Waves' matches, stormed forward to pressure the Bruin defense. Hill took two shots, one on frame and one that hit the post, as she attempted to equal the score.
The Bruins continued to take shots in the first half and at the 32:24 mark, Cheney scored her second goal to put UCLA up 2-0 as the first period ended.
Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte stopped five shots in the second 45 minutes to total seven saves for the match, but the Bruins would add one more goal at the 84:25 mark.
The Waves continue their four-match road trip next weekend when they face Utah on Sept. 29 in a 6:30 p.m. (PDT) match and UNLV in a 1 p.m. (PDT) match on Oct. 1.
