Women's Soccer Drops Decision to Northern Arizona 1-0

Albuquerque, NM - On the final day of the New Mexico Tournament, the Saint Mary's women's soccer team fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks by a score of 1-0. NAU's game winning goal came with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation. The Gaels finished the New Mexico Tournament with an 0-2 record and are now 1-8-2 overall, while Northern Arizona improved to 5-6 on the season.

Northern Arizona's Kylie France netted her first goal of the season at the 81:36 mark with a shot from 25 yards out. France took a pass from Kaitlin Baum and took the shot from the middle of the field, getting it past SMC goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich. Zenovich had two saves for the Gaels.

Saint Mary's controlled the flow of play for much of the game and out-shot the Lumberjacks by a 19-9 differential. Although the Gaels took more shots, SMC only had four shots on goal and Northern Arizona had three shots on frame.

Four Gaels had at least three shots as Danielle Spann led the team with five shots with two on goal. Stefani Rocco took four shots and both McKenna Belzer and Allie Weiner had three shots each. NAU goalkeeper Elizabeth Winkelblec earned the win as she collected four saves.

Saint Mary's will return to action on October 6 when the Gaels host UC Davis. The game between SMC and the Aggies will kickoff at 3 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium.
