Box Score

Los Angeles, CA - The #21 LMU women's soccer team scored two goals in 65 seconds for a 2-0 win over Hawaii in non-conference action this afternoon at Sullivan Field. Lauren Shanklin gave LMU a 1-0 lead at 65:02, and Jamie Bell added an insurance goal at 66:07. Joslyn Slovek made six saves to pick up her third shutout of the season, as the Lions win their fourth straight. LMU will take a 7-1-2 overall record into conference play, hosting Pepperdine in its WCC opener on Sunday at 1:00pm at Sullivan Field.

The game was very even in the first half, with both teams registering four shots. However, the Hawaii (6-5-2) defense forced nine LMU offsides in the first half, frustrating the Lion offense.

However, LMU stayed patient and was able to break through in the second half. The Lions scored their first goal following their first corner kick of the day. Bell's corner kick was successfully cleared out by the Rainbow Wahine defense, but Brandi Young came forward from her defensive spot to keep the ball in play. After it was knocked around several times, Shanklin got a hard shot off from the top of the box, driving the ball past Hawaii goalkeeper Kori Lu to put the Lions on the board at 65:02. The goal is Shanklin's first career score.

The Lion offense continued to attack, adding another goal just a minute later. Stefanie Baduria found Bell streaking down the middle of the field and fed her the ball. Lu charged forward to challenge the ball, and Bell was able to chip it over the goalkeeper and into the goal to put LMU ahead 2-0.

That would be all LMU needed as they held off the Hawaii offense in the final 25 minutes for the shutout. Slovek finished the game with six saves for her third shutout. Lu made three saves for Hawaii.

The Rainbow Wahine outshot LMU 12-11, including a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Kelli-Anne Chang had four shots for Hawaii, and Bell led LMU with four shots.

The Lions have won four straight contests, with two straight shutouts. They will begin conference play on Sunday, hosting Pepperdine at 1:00pm at Sullivan Field. The game will be broadcast live and free on Lions All-Access at www.LMULions.com.
