San Jose, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team got a goal by Alex Ciliento in the 87th minute to earn a 1-0 road win over the San Jose State Spartans on Friday afternoon from Spartan Field. The victory improves the Gaels record to 5-4-2 while the Spartans fall to 1-8-2 overall.

With just under four minutes remaining in regulation, junior midfielder Stefani Rocco played a ball down the right side of the field to freshman forward Alex Ciliento. Ciliento ran onto it and touched it past Spartan goalkeeper Nina Butera before calmly shooting into the empty net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The goal by Ciliento marks the fifth of the season for the freshman, which is the most on the team. She also has a team-leading three game-winning goals this year.

The Spartans outshot Saint Mary's 25-14, but only had eight shots on goal. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Tara Larson made all eight stops en route to her third shutout of the season.

Both teams had several long-range scoring attempts during the early part of Friday's game on what was a windy afternoon in San Jose . The first chance from close-in came from Saint Mary's in the 13th minute, when junior forward Mika Matsui crossed from the right and sophomore forward Allie Weiner put a point-blank header on it that went straight at Butera for the save.

The Gaels will return to action on Friday, October 12 with a road game at UC Davis, which begins at 4 p.m. from the Aggie Soccer Complex.
