CORVALLIS, Ore. - A goal by Lauren Zuckerman provided Gonzaga University's women's soccer team with a 1-0 victory over Oregon State University in Corvallis Friday as the Zags set a school record by extending their unbeaten streak to eight matches.
The Bulldogs' record improved to 8-2-1 for the season with the victory, while handing the Beavers their first loss at home this season, while they dropped to 7-3-1 for the year.
The victory marked the eighth consecutive match in which the Bulldogs have not suffered a tally in the loss column. The school record for an unbeaten streak was set in 2005, when Gonzaga won seven straight matches. The last time the Zags suffered a loss this season was on September 7, when they fell to Washington State University in double overtime.
Zuckerman scored the match's lone goal earlier, giving the Zags a 1-0 edge at the 6:33 mark. The senior connected with a pass from Ashley Riley before knocking the ball in from ten yards out.
Goalkeeper Jessie Thalman earned her sixth shutout of the season, as well as the 11th of her career. The sophomore currently ranks second on the career shutout list and her six shutouts this season ranks tied for third. Thalman posted four saves against the Beavers, while improving to 8-2-1 this season. Oregon State goalkeeper Ashley Wood posted eight saves while suffering the loss.
Gonzaga held the corner kick advantage for the match, 5-1, while both team posted 10 shots a piece.
The Bulldogs will look to continue their unbeaten streak Sunday round out the non-conference season with a match against the University of Oregon in Eugene. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
