Los Angeles, CA - The #21 Loyola Marymount women's soccer team outshot Pepperdine 24-9 but neither team could find the back of the net and the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 tie in today's West Coast Conference opener at Sullivan Field. LMU dominated the final 65 minutes of the game, outshooting Peppedine 17-4, but Kayla Stolte made 13 saves on the day for the Waves. Joslyn Slovek stopped six shots to record her fourth shutout of the year. LMU remains undefeated at home and moves to 7-1-3 on the season.

The first half was fairly even, with LMU taking a 7-5 advantage in shots. The play was mostly in the midfield, and was physical with LMU (7-1-3, 0-0-1) recording 13 fouls while Pepperdine (6-4-3, 0-0-1) made 11.

The Lions picked up the pressure in the second half, outshooting Pepperdine 10-4. The Waves mounted a strong offensive attack with 20 minutes left in the game, with four shots on goal in a five minute span, but Slovek was up for the challenge, stopping every shot to keep the game scoreless. Pepperdine did not get off a shot in the final 35 minutes of the game.

LMU nearly broke the scoreless tie late in the game. In the 88th minute, Lacey Bartels had an open shot from the right side of the goal. Stolte was able to get a hand on her low hard shot to the far post, and the ball looked like it might dribble into the net, but it went just wide and the game headed into overtime.

Both overtime periods were easily controlled by LMU. The final 20 minutes were played almost entirely on the Pepperdine half of the field, and the Lions outshot the Waves 7-0 in the two overtime periods. But again, Stolte came up big for the Waves, making six saves in the extra time to record the shutout.

Jamie Bell led the Lions with seven shots, and Katrina Chong added four shots. Emily Wynne led Pepperdine with three shots in the game.

LMU returns to action on Friday afternoon, hosting Santa Clara in a crucial WCC matchup. The Broncos defeated San Diego 2-0 this afternoon and are currently ranked in the top 5. Game time is set for 4:00pm at Sullivan Field.
