Spokane, WA - Gonzaga's Nanda McCormick scored her third goal of the season to help the Bulldogs post a 1-0 win over the Saint Mary's women's soccer team on Friday afternoon t Martin Field. The Gaels fall to 1-1-0 against West Coast Conference opponents and 3-9-2 overall. The win marked the first WCC victory of the season for the Zags, who improved to 1-1-0 in conference play and 7-6-1 overall.
The lone goal of the match came at the 77:19 mark when McCormick took a cross from the far right corner from Beth Drollinger. The cross pulled SMC goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich out of the net, allowing McCormick to poke the ball in past Zenovich.
SMC freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich, who was coming off back-to-back wins, recorded three saves in the match. Zenovich now has a 2-5-0 record in goal for the Gaels this season. Saint Mary's was held to only four shots, with two on goal. Four different players had shots for SMC and Jessica Menzhuber and Mika Matsui record shots on goal. Gonzaga posted 11 total shots, including holding a 5-1 advantage in the first half. GU also held the advantage on corner kicks, 6-1.
Saint Mary's will return to WCC action on Sunday when the Gaels take on the No. 5 ranked Portland Pilots. The game between SMC and Portland will kick-off at 2 p.m. from Merlo Field.
