USF Women's Soccer Falls To Gonzaga 1-0

(Spokane, WA) - USF women's soccer fell to Gonzaga 1-0 in West Coast Conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Dons (4-10-2, 0-2-1 WCC) are as of yet winless in conference play, while the Bulldogs raise their record to 8-6-1, 2-1-0 WCC.

Gonzaga struck early in the game and never relinquished the lead. At 8:48, junior forward Nanda McCormick found an empty goal from five yards out after an assist from junior forward Christine Soma.

USF couldn't muster enough offense, giving the Bulldogs a 12-9 shot and 8-5 corner kick advantage. Dons sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Pohle had five saves on the day.

Friday's hero, freshman forward Samantha Brand, led the team with three shots in the match. Senior forward Chelsea Hunt and freshman midfielder Jenny Jarvie added two. Senior defender and sophomore Alexis Mielke each had one.

USF returns to action at Negoesco Stadium this Friday. The match versus Loyola Marymount is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
