Oct. 20, 2006

Final Stats

(San Francisco, CA) - With less than a minute left to play, Loyola Marymount senior midfielder Tana Smotherman found the net to earn the victory for her team in a closely matched West Coast Conference game at Negoesco Stadium on Friday night. The Dons (4-11-2, 0-3-1) remain winless in the WCC this season, while the Lions jump to 8-2-4, 1-1-2.

At 89:11, Smotherman found the ball at her feet and from 42 yards out nailed a shot into the upper left hand corner of the goal, over the head of Dons sophomore goalie Katie Hodgson. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the game, no one really getting an advantage until the last minute.

LMU held the slim advantage in shots, 8-7 and both teams each had three corner kicks. Hodgson had four saves, while Lions junior goalkeeper Joslyn Slovek had two.

Freshman forward Samantha Brand led the Dons with three shots on the evening and sophomore midfielder Katherine Kimure had two. Senior forward Chelsea Hunt and freshman forward Kristina Hall each had one.

USF returns to action on Sunday, October 22 against No. 22 Pepperdine. The game, at Negoesco Stadium, is set to begin at 1:00 PM. Last year, USF beat No. 18 Pepperdine 2-1.

Before the Dons take the field, the San Francisco Nighthawks and the Olympic Club, two teams from the Golden Gate Women's Soccer Premiere League will play a match at Negoesco Stadium, beginning at 9:00 AM. Tickets for the double-header are $7 for adults and $3 for kids.
