MORAGA, Calif. - Jamie Blanche recorded one goal and an assist as the Gonzaga University women's soccer team posted their first win in West Coast Conference play Sunday, thanks to a 2-0 shutout over Saint Mary's College in Moraga, Calif.
With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 9-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in league play. The Gaels dropped to 6-7-2 overall and 0-3-0 in conference action.
Blanche led the Zags on the afternoon thanks to her goal and assist. She earned her sixth career assist at the 6:55 mark when freshman Ashley Riley gave the Zags an early 1-0 lead. Riley took a shot off of a rebound from six yards out.
Blanche then extended Gonzaga's lead to 2-0 with her 10th career goal. Her goal came from five yards out off of a save from SMC's goalkeeper, Tara Larson.
Lauren Ames earned her first collegiate shutout in her first start for the Bulldogs. Ames recorded two saves en-route to the victory. Larson suffered the loss allowing two goals while recording four saves.
The Zags' held an overwhelming 14-8 shot advantage, as well as a 4-2 corner kick edge.
The Bulldogs will return home this week to host a pair of nationally-ranked WCC foes. Thursday, Gonzaga will face Santa Clara University at 1 p.m. at Martin Field before hosting the University of San Diego Sunday at noon.
