Malibu, Calif. - The No. 22 Pepperdine women's soccer team fell to San Francisco, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in a West Coast Conference (WCC) match at Negoesco Stadium. The Waves moved to 9-5-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the WCC as the Dons, who picked up their first conference win, snapped Pepperdine's unbeaten streak in the league.
The Dons (5-11-2, 1-3-1 WCC) found themselves on the board within the first 10 minutes of the match after a shot by Alexis Mielke slipped in the net from five yards out. After a Pepperdine corner kick, Jenna Shay followed with a shot on frame, while McKenzie Hill, Emily Wynne, and Lindsey Redlin all attempted shots.
As both teams continued to play the ball back and forth in the first half, San Francisco had another opportunity at the 39:26 mark when Katherine Kimure found space in the upper corner of the goal to put the Dons up 2-0.
Trailing by two goals, the visiting team dominated in the second half as it out-shot the Dons 10-0, but San Francisco goalkeeper stopped five of the Waves' shots.
As time wound down, Pepperdine was able to take three more shots in the last 10 minutes of regulation, but could not find room to get a score.
Hill led all players with five shots, including four shots on goal, while Wynne added four more shots. Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte recorded five saves in the match.
The Waves continue their four-match road trip on October 26 when they make the short trip to Cal State Northridge with the first kick set for 2:30 p.m.
