Box Score

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team and the Loyola Marymount Lions played to a 0-0 draw in a West Coast Conference game on Sunday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium. Following the tie, the Gaels' overall record is now 3-11-3 and their WCC record is 1-3-1. The Lion are now 8-2-5 overall and 1-1-3 in conference play.

In what proved to be a very even game statistically, both Saint Mary's and LMU finished the game with 17 shots each. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich recorded four saves en route to her second shutout of the season. The shutout SMC marked the third of the season for the Gaels. LMU keeper Joslyn Slovek made five saves to record her sixth shutout of the year, and seventh of the season for the Lions.

Saint Mary's best opportunity to score came with 26 minutes left, when the Gaels took three straight shots against the Lions defense. Following a corner kick, SMC's first shot came off a header from Joelle Gizzi. After an LMU defender stalled Gizzi's shot, SMC forward Nikki Schrey took a shot from seven yards out that was stopped by Slovek. Ashley Dernbach collected the rebound and fired a shot from 10 yards out and Slovek made a diving save before the LMU defense cleared the ball to prevent the goal.

LMU's best opportunities to score came on long shots, with the most dangerous coming off the foot of Whitney Temple at the 73:20 mark. Temple's shot from 35 yards out was on frame and Zenovich reached over her head to grab the ball just in front of the goal line. Zenovich's momentum carried her into the goal, but the ball never crossed the line.

Saint Mary's recorded five shots on goal with McKenna Belzer putting two shots on frame and Schrey, Danielle Spann and Dernbach had one shot on goal each. For the Lions, Temple and Katie Osborne had two shots on goal.

Saint Mary's will return to action in a non-conference game on Thursday, October 26 when they travel to UC Santa Barbara. The game between SMC and the Gauchos will kick off at 7 p.m. from Harder Stadium.
