Santa Clara, Calif. - Nanda McCormick continued her four-match goal scoring streak Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Gonzaga University women's soccer team fell to fourth-ranked Santa Clara University 6-2 at Santa Clara, Calif.
The loss was Gonzaga's second in West Coast Conference play, dropping the Zags to a 9-7-1 overall record and 3-2-0 against WCC foes. The Broncos improved to 13-3-1, including a 3-1-1 record in conference matches.
McCormick continued her four-match goal scoring streak at the 74:55 mark, when she scored an unassisted goal on a long ball from 30 yards out that knocked off the goalkeeper's hands. In the junior's four-match streak, she has been the only Bulldogs to post a goal in any of the four matches. Prior to Sunday, GU's past three contests had been decided with an 1-0 score.
The first Bulldog goal of the match was posted at 51:41 as an own goal.
Santa Clara entered the second half with a 4-0 lead, including two goals that were scored within 30 second of each other. Leading the Broncos was Jordan Angeli, who posted two goals and an assist. Also with two goals was SCU's Brittany Klein.
The Broncos controlled the game offensively, holding the demanding 21-7 shot advantage, as well as the 12-3 corner kick edge.
The Zags will wrap up the home portion of the 2006 campaign this weekend, when they host the University of Montana Friday at 1 p.m. and Loyola-Marymount College Sunday at 11 a.m. Sunday's match will be Senior Day and will honor GU seniors Traci Dallas, Beth Drollinger and Megan Trammell. Sunday will also be a doubleheader with the Gonzaga men's soccer team.
