SAN DEGO, Calif. - Junior forward Leigh Ann Robinson tallied two goals to lift the University of San Diego women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over cross-town rival San Diego State University Wednesday evening in a non-conference match at Torero Stadium.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 10-8-0 overall and improve their all-time record against SDSU to 7-3-0. With the loss, the Aztecs fall to 6-10-2 overall.
Robinson scored the only goal the Toreros would need in the 40th minute of action. Christine Mock sent a cross through a stingy Aztec defense to Robinson, who was there to corral the pass and punch it into the back of the net for her eighth goal of the season.
USD then padded its lead when Robinson took a hard shot from the left side of the goal box. The ball hit the SDSU goalkeeper in the hands, rolled behind her and USD's Tara Hodgson and a SDSU defender both made a play on the ball, but the ball rolled past the goal line before they could touch it to give Robinson her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
USD outshot the Aztecs 14-9 and both teams were even in corner kicks with five apiece.
Brittany Cameron picked up the win for the Toreros allowing no goals and recording three saves to pick up her second shutout of the season. Her counterpart, Cat Burson, was saddled with the loss for the Aztecs allowing two goals and recording seven saves.
The Toreros will return to the pitch on Sunday as they host Saint Mary's in West Coast Conference action. The 12 p.m. match will be the final home match of the 2006 season and the Toreros will honor their senior class of Brittany Young, Veronica Ambort and Joslyn Williams prior to the start of the match.
