San Diego, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 West Coast Conference loss to the San Diego Toreros on Sunday afternoon from Torero Stadium. USD's Christine Mock scored two second-half goals to help the Toreros earn the victory. The Gaels overall record now stands at 3-12-4 with a WCC mark of 1-4-1. The Toreros are now 10-8 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
San Diego opened the scoring early when Veronica Ambort scored just 6:17 into the game. Ambort's goal, which was assisted by Allison Wolters and Leigh Ann Robinson, came off a chip shot over the SMC goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich.
The game remained a one-goal difference until the 75th minute when Mock scored the first of her two goals. Mock's first goal came off a corner kick from Vanessa Vella, as Mock headed a perfect shot off Vella's cross from the left corner. Mock and Vella connected for USD's next goal eight minutes later when Mock headed in a goal off a free kick from 40 yards out.
The final goal for the Toreros came with four minutes remaining when Marina Herberer scored the first goal of her career.
Saint Mary's took five shots in the game with just one shot on goal. USD goalkeeper Brittany Cameron earned the shutout with just one save. The Toreros took 14 shots with eight on goal. Zenovich finished the game with four saves and four goals allowed.
Saint Mary's will return to action on Saturday, November 4 when the Gaels host Santa Clara. The game between SMC and Santa Clara will kickoff at 3 p.m. from Saint Mary's Stadium. The Gaels versus Broncos game will be the final of the season for Saint Mary's, which will honor seniors Sarah Churchill, Joelle Gizzi, and McKenna Belzer before the game.
