USF Women's Soccer Falls to No. 7 Santa Clara 4-0

(Santa Clara, CA) - After a big win last Sunday, San Francisco couldn't get on the board as they fell to No. 7 Santa Clara 4-0 this afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Dons fall to 5-12-2, 1-4-1 on the season while the Broncos jump to 14-3-1, 4-1-1.

SCU got the scoring started at 20:23 when senior midfielder Marian Dalmy got foot on a loose ball in the box and shot from about nine yards out. Dalmy doubled their score seven minutes later on her second goal of the game. Junior midfielder Jordan Angeli got a free kick off to junior forward Meagan Snell who passed it on to Dalmy who shot the ball passed Dons sophomore goalie Katie Hodgson.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Bronco senior midfielder Bonnie Bowman drove in a long shot from 12 yards out off a cross from Dalmy. Senior Elyse Shelger was credited with a second assist on that ball. Four minutes before the final buzzer, SCU added their last score of the afternoon, a shot passed Dons sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Pohle from freshman forward Katherine Reynolds with assists from freshman forward Lexi Orand and senior defender Casey Pleas.

Hodgson had four saves on the day, while Pohle had three. Sophomores Jessica Duty and Jessica Gaskin had two shots each, with Kara Breithaupt, Alexis Mielke, Chelsea Hunt, Hilary Fisher, Katherine Kimure and Katie Hoban all added one.

Santa Clara out shot USF 18-10 and also held an 8-4 corner kick advantage.

USF returns to action Saturday, November 5 at Negoesco Stadium for their final match of the season, a WCC meeting with San Diego at 1:00 PM. Saturday also marks the final game for four seniors and a special ceremony will be held prior to kickoff.
