Spokane, Wash. - Katie Osborne's fifth minute goal held up as the #24 Loyola Marymount women's soccer team secured a 1-0 road victory over Gonzaga this morning in Spokane, WA. Despite a 42 degree temperature and 22 mph winds, Joslyn Slovek made eight saves to record her seventh shutout of the season. The Lions improve to 10-2-5 overall, and 2-1-3 in WCC action.
The lone goal of the match was scored by Osborne in the fifth minute of the game. LMU's Jamie Bell got the ball near the midfield and fended off defenders before passing it to Osborne in front of the goal. Osborne was able to score on Gonzaga goalkeeper Jessie Thalman in a one on one situation.
The Bulldogs outshot LMU 15-7, including an 8-3 adantage in shots on goal, but Slovek came up big with eight saves to preserve the victory. Tana Smothermon led LMU with two shots.
With the loss, the Bulldogs slip to 10-8-1, including a 3-3-0 record when playing West Coast Conference opponents. The win puts LMU into a tie for fourth place in the conference with one game remaining.
LMU returns to Sullivan Field on Saturday to host its final regular season game against Portland at 1:00pm. Prior to the game, the Lions will honor the four members of their senior class - Alicia Lloyd, Amy Sauer, Tana Smothermon and Whitney Temple.
