Nov. 4, 2006

Malibu, Calif. - Ending the regular season in victorious fashion on Senior Day, the No. 24 Pepperdine women's soccer team received goals from three different players as it rolled over Gonzaga, 3-0, in both team's final West Coast Conference (WCC) match on Saturday afternoon. The Waves ended the regular season with an 11-6-3 overall record and a 4-2-1 record in conference play, while the Bulldogs concluded the season with a 10-9-1 record, including a 3-4-0 conference mark.

The Bulldogs got out of the gate quickly as they controlled much of the first half offensively, but Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte stopped any balls crossing in front of the net. Pepperdine gained possession late in the first 45 minutes, stepping up in Gonzaga territory after midfielder Jenna Shay's shot sailed over the cross bar.

Senior Lindsey Redlin bended her corner kick in front of the opponent's net as Emily Wynne's shot was knocked into Sophia Medina's foot. The freshman forward followed with a shot that found the back of the net to give the Waves the 1-0 lead at the 40:20 mark.

Pepperdine kept its momentum going in the second half as it quickly became the dominate team. Redlin dribbled down field, drawing the goalkeeper out of the box, but the Bulldog defense was there to save the imminent goal. Redlin had another opportunity shortly after when defender Courtney Nelson crossed the ball to her senior teammate, but the shot fell wide.

The Waves added two more goals in the last 10 minutes of play. Receiving the pass off of a free kick, sophomore defender Ashley Copp rocketed the ball past Bulldog goalkeeper Jessie Thalman as Pepperdine gained a two goal lead at the 84:59 mark. Redlin finally found her opportunity in the last minute of the game when Wynne crossed the ball and shot from the left side as the Waves' third goal slipped past Thalman.

Late in the second half, Gonzaga had a chance to get on board when it earned a free kick outside the box. Midfielder Taylor Hall headed the ball in the corner of the net, but Stolte was able to keep her hands on the shot as the Wave recorded her sixth shutout of the season.

Pepperdine out-shot Gonzaga 13-10, including eight shots on goal as it snapped a three-game losing streak against the Bulldogs. Redlin led all players with five shots and was credited with two assists along with the final goal. Wynne was credited with an assist on each of the Waves' three goals.

Saturday's match marked the last regular season appearance for seven senior Waves. Redlin, Nelson, Jennifer Brewer, Caitlin Mitchell, Lauren Treinen, Loretta Younkin and Ashlee Doi are concluding their Pepperdine careers this season.

The Waves will turn their attention to Monday when the 64-team field to the NCAA Tournament will be announced live on ESPNews at Noon (PT). First-round NCAA Tournament gets underway on Friday, November 10, at selected sites.
