Malibu, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's soccer team was unable to finish the 2006 season on a winning note Saturday falling 3-0 to No. 24 Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
The Zags finished the season with a 10-9-1 overall record, including a 3-4-0 record in West Coast Conference contests. The 10 wins marks the fourth consecutive year Gonzaga has finished with a winning record, as well as the fourth consecutive season with 10 or more wins. With the shutout, Pepperdine ended the regular season with an 11-6-3 record, 4-2-1 against WCC foe.
The match remained knotted at zero until late into the first half, when at 40:20 the Waves' Sophia Media's goal gave Pepperdine an 1-0 lead. Pepperdine's two other goals came in the last five minutes of the match, with the first of the two coming during the 85th minute by Ashley Copp. The final goal was with two seconds remaining in the match at 89:58 but Lindsey Redlin.
Senior Beth Drollinger posted one shot in her final performance for Gonzaga. Drollinger finishes her career tied for second in career assists (9). Also playing in their final match for the Bulldogs was seniors Traci Dallas and Megan Trammell.
The Waves held slight leads in both shots and corner kicks for the match. Pepperdine posted 13 shots to Gonzaga's 10 and held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Junior Nanda McCormick finished the season as the team leader with seven goals and 16 points. Thanks to her performance this season, McCormick is tied for third place for career goals with 16. Her numbers this season also tied her for seventh in the single season books for goals and tied for eighth in total points. She already ranks fifth in singles season goals with 9 and tied for fourth in total points with 21 thanks to her efforts during the 2005 season.
