Women's Soccer Falls To Mexican National Team

PORTLAND, Ore - The Mexican National team scored five second half goals on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Gonzaga University women's soccer team in a friendly match played at Merlo Field on the University of Portland campus.

The Bulldogs and Mexico played a scoreless 45 minutes to open the match with Mexico taking eight shots and Gonzaga four. The Bulldogs lone shot on goal came in the first 45 minutes off the foot of Lacey Castleberry. Mexican goal keeper P. Tajonar Alonso made the save.

In the second half Mexico turned up the offensive attack with 17 shots against redshirt freshman goal keeper Laura Higby. Higby made six saves on the afternoon.

Mexico scored its first goal six minutes into the second half on a 10-yard boot from T. Worbis Aguilar. M. Ocampo Medina finished off an 8-yard cross at the 68:32 mark to secure the match.

Mexico added three goals over the final 15 minutes to end the contest including two insurance goals in the last five minutes.

Christine Soma had two of the Bulldogs five shots while Nanda McCormick had one chance and Sarah Hall one chance.

Gonzaga also played a spring exhibition match against Portland over the weekend losing 3-1 to the Pilots on Saturday. Lauren Dascenzo scored the Bulldogs tally on an assist from Castleberry.
