USF Women's Soccer Completes Spring Season

May 5, 2006

(San Francisco, CA) - The Lady Don's wrapped up their spring season for 2006 with a third place finish at the KICKS Against Breast Cancer tournament on April 22 at Stanford University. USF played four tough matches down on the Farm: two against the California Storm and another two against Pac-10 powers Cal and Stanford.

Head Coach, Pamela Kalinoski sounded pleased with the Spring Season for 06: "I look at the season as a tremendous success from the standpoint of development. I think we came a long way both in terms of team and individual player improvement. The results in the tournament this past weekend were definitely a nice reward for the hard work that the team has been putting in on the practice field this spring."

The results from the season series against the California Storm are perhaps the best measure for the sort of improvement Coach Kalinoski has been seeing. The Lady Dons had four contests with the Storm widely known as one of the best women's teams in the country. On March 5, the Don's dropped the first game of the series, 6-0, here at Negoesco Stadium. Three weeks later the Don's battled to a 5-2 loss against the same Storm team. To finish the spring season, USF faced the Storm twice at the tournament in Stanford: tallying a 1-1 record. The Dons played two excellent games against the Storm posting both an unlucky 2-1 loss and a 1-0 victory.

Kalinoski's final thoughts on the spring: "Overall I'm pleased with the spring season. We have come a long way and I think the players have put a lot of effort into the past couple of months. We have a great class coming in for 2006, and we should end up with a highly competitive practice environment as a result. Our group should be highly motivated during the summer break. Each of us knows that we will face a lot of challenges in the fall, but we are all very excited to meet those challenges come August."
