SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's soccer head coach Shannon Stiles has announced the addition of two players to join the Bulldog squad in 2007. Joining the Zags are Gwenna Carie and Katie Spangenberg.
Carie played both forward and midfield at Cascade High School in Leavenworth, Wash., where she earned four varsity letters. She was named both first-team All-State and Caribou Trail League first team in 2006. Carie, who finished her high school career scoring 65 goals and tallying 46 assists, was also named Central Washington Athletic Conference League Player of the Year in 2005.
"Gwenna has tremendous speed, competing in the 100, 200 and 400 meter events for Cascade High School in Leavenworth," said Stiles. "She is a former Eastside FC player with an incredible work rate."
Spangenberg is a midfielder from Pullman High School in Pullman, Wash. She was a four-year varsity letterwinner who closed out her career with 55 goals and 38 assists; both school records. Spangenberg is a three-time first-team All-State honoree and a four-time first-team All-Great Northern League selection.
"Katie is a 'diamond in the rough'," stated Stiles. "She is a courageous player with good attacking skills. We look forward to adding her to our team this fall."
Carie and Spangenberg join incoming freshman Lauren Ames, Catherine Cullen, Sheridan Jones, Ashley Riley and Elle Sweeney.
