Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's head women's soccer coach Kelly Lindsey announced today her 19-game schedule for the 2007 season, which include seven games against 2006 NCAA Tournament participants. The Gaels will officially begin their 2007 campaign at the California Tournament in Berkeley on Aug. 31 against Colorado College.
"This schedule presents us with the opportunity to compete against some of the top teams in the country," said Lindsey. "We are excited about watching our players compete at such a high level. One of our goals is to develop a team that can consistently compete at the highest level of collegiate women's soccer. This schedule will certainly help get us heading in that direction."
In head coach Kelly Lindsey's second season, the Gaels will play 20 games, which include a home exhibition match against Pacific on Friday, August 24. The Gaels will then play 19 games that count towards its official results, beginning on Aug. 31 against Colorado College and Sept. 2 against Columbia in the California Tournament in Berkeley, CA.
Following the Cal Tournament, Saint Mary's will return to Moraga to host its annual tournament, which included California, Cal State Bakersfield, and Vermont. The tournament will begin on Sept. 7 with Cal and CS Bakersfield taking the pitch at 2 p.m. Saint Mary's will then battle Vermont at 4:30 p.m. All games will be played at Saint Mary's Stadium. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 9, when Cal and Vermont kick-off at noon, followed by the Gaels and Roadrunners at 2:30 p.m.
The third and final tournament of the season will have the Gaels on the road in Nashville, TN in the Vanderbilt Tournament on Sept. 14 and 16. Saint Mary's will open the Vanderbilt Tournament against the University of Alabama Birmingham on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. Central Time. The Gaels will close the tournament against Vanderbilt on Sunday with kickoff slated for 2:30 p.m.
After traveling to Nashville, the Gaels will return home for back-to-back games against Sacramento State and Valparaiso, on Sept. 21 and 23, respectively. Following the two home contests, Saint Mary's will play five straight road games, all against local competition.
The first two road games have the Gaels matched up against two NCAA Tournament teams from last season in California and Stanford on Sept. 28 and 30, respectively. Following those matches, SMC will travel to San Jose State on Oct. 5 and UC Davis on Oct. 12 to conclude non-conference play. The Gaels open West Coast Conference action on the road at San Francisco on Oct. 14.
Following the match against the Dons, SMC will return to Saint Mary's Stadium for matches against national power Portland on Oct. 19, followed by a match against Gonzaga on Oct. 21. A road-trip to Southern California will have the Gaels playing at Loyola Marymount on Oct. 26 and Pepperdine on October 28. The final home game of the season is scheduled for Nov. 2 when the Gaels host the San Diego Toreros and Saint Mary's will wrap-up its regular season with a road game against Santa Clara on Nov. 10.
