SAN BRUNO, Calif. - San Diego freshman forward Devany Savage (San Diego, Calif./Valhalla HS) was named West Coast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week after recording the lone goal in the Toreros' 1-0 upset victory at #19 USC.
Savage's first collegiate goal came in the 59th minute of her first collegiate match. Credit junior Stephanie Ochs with the assist as she offered the cross into the box where Savage was able to get her head on the ball and push it into the back of the net.
The win marks the first time in program history that San Diego defeated the Trojans in Los Angeles.
The honor is the first for a Toreros player since Jen Mello took the honor Nov. 3, 2008.
San Diego returns to action Friday when it hosts the USD Tournament at Torero Stadium. USD faces Arizona at 7:30 p.m. on the tournament's first day.
