Sept. 24, 2007
LMU senior Jamie Bell was named the West Coast Conference co-Player of the Week for September 17-23, the conference office announced Monday. It is LMU's first Player of the Week honor of the 2007 season and Bell's first of her career.
Bell (Monrovia, CA/La Salle HS) netted both game-winners for the Lions last week as they went 2-0-0 to extend their winning streak to four games and get above .500 for the first time this season. On Thursday at Cal State Fullerton, Bell popped up in overtime to score the golden goal in a 2-1 victory that avenged the Lions' loss to the Titans in last year's NCAA First Round. On Sunday against Fresno State, Bell broke a goal-less tie in the second half with a 25-yard strike as LMU went on to a 2-0 victory.
Bell leads the 2007 Lions with three goals (all game-winners) and eight points and moves into the LMU career top-10 with 11 goals. She shares the Player of the Week honor with Jen Mello of San Diego.
LMU continues its five-game home stand with a pair of matches this weekend. The Lions host Idaho on Friday at 4 p.m. and UC Riverside on Sunday at 1 p.m.
