WCC play begins Thursday with nationally-televised clash

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --Conference play begins this week for all nine West Coast Conference women's soccer teams. Action gets underway Thursday, when four teams take the pitch - including a nationally-televised match in Provo, where defending WCC champ Portland visits BYU on FOX Soccer.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Santa Clara enters conference play as the WCC's hottest team. The 14th-ranked Broncos have won four in a row.

  • Portland visits BYU Thursday in a nationally televised match on FOX Soccer. The Cougars will be playing their first-ever WCC match, while the Pilots will be looking to extend their string of four straight WCC titles.

  • Saint Mary's sophomore Jordan Marada scored a pair of goals in the Gaels' 2-0 win at CSU Bakersfield last week. Marada has scored seven goals and added five assists this season, matching her 2010 points total.

  • Gonzaga senior Sarah Rhodes assisted on both game-winning goals in a pair of Zags' victories last week. Rhodes has six assists in 2011 and a school record 17 in her career.

  • Pepperdine remains the lone unbeaten in the West Coast Conference entering WCC play. The Waves will host 2010 participant San Diego in Thursday's opener, before traveling to BYU for a nationally-televised match on Saturday.

  • Gonzaga junior Susan Brown leads the WCC with 6 shutouts.
