Malibu, Calif. - After scoring the game-winning goal on Sunday to give Pepperdine the 1-0 upset over No. 3 Santa Clara, forward Sophia Medina was named the West Coast Conference (WCC) "Player of the Week," the conference announced Monday.
The freshman was also credited with the assist on the game-winning goal during Friday's 2-1 overtime victory over San Diego.
Medina has made an immediate impact as a rookie as she totals three goals on the season, including two goals against Idaho in her collegiate debut. The Downey, Calif. native ranks third on the team in goals and fourth with seven points.
It marked the first time in her career the Wave earned the WCC honor and is the second Pepperdine player to receive the accolade this season. Goalkeeper Kayla Stolte received the honor on Sept. 18.
