Bosio's Heroics Earn Her WCC Player Of the Week Honors

Oct. 23, 2006

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - With her MVP performance at the Santa Clara adidas Classic on Opening Weekend, freshman forward Kiki Bosio showed that she would be a major factor in the success of the Santa Clara women's soccer team. Monday, following a weekend which saw her score the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over No. 7 Portland and add another three days later against Gonzaga, Bosio was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week.

Bosio, who now has three goals on the season, has also recorded eight assists, second-most in the WCC. She has also taken a team-leading 37 shots this season for the Broncos. Her performance over the weekend helped SCU to two crucial wins which put the Broncos into a three-way tie atop the WCC standings.

Thursday night, in front of a national television audience, Bosio took a pass just before the midfield stripe and executed an outstanding run, dribbling her way through the Portland defense before cranking off a shot from near the top of the box to the far lower corner that ended up being the game-winner in Santa Clara's 3-2 win.

Sunday, Bosio opened up the scoring in SCU's 6-2 win over Gonzaga, outrunning the Bulldog defense to a long ball off the foot of goalkeeper Julie Ryder and beating the onrushing keeper for her third goal of the season.

"Kiki's been a consistent performer for us since our first match, and is only getting better and better each week," said head coach Jerry Smith. "She scored an unbelievable goal against Portland, which ended up being the game-winner. Kiki has been critical to our team's success and now as we're getting to the end of the season, she is already playing more like a veteran."

Santa Clara concludes its regular season home slate this Sunday at Buck Shaw Stadium, hosting the San Francisco Dons in a 1 p.m. battle. The Senior Day match will also serve as the final regular-season home match for 10 Bronco seniors.
