Oct. 25, 2006

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the second time in three weeks, an LMU women's soccer player has been named to the Soccer Buzz Team of the Week. This week, senior Tana Smothermon earned the award after she scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute remaining in the 1-0 win over San Francisco.

It is the first Soccer Buzz award for Smothermon, who is second on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists this season. The win over USF helped the Lions move back into the national rankings, as the Lions now sit at #24 in the Soccer America poll and #27 in the Soccer Buzz poll. Joslyn Slovek was named to the Soccer Buzz Team of the Week two weeks ago after recording shutouts against Hawaii and Pepperdine.

The Lions will host Utah Valley State on Thursday at 3:00pm at Sullivan Field before heading to Spokane to face Gonzaga on Sunday at 11:00am. The Bulldogs sit in 4th place in the WCC, one spot ahead of the Lions who are in 5th place with a 1-1-3 conference record. For the season, LMU is 7-2-5.
