Nov. 2, 2010

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Fifteen West Coast Conference men's and women's soccer players earned placement on the 2010 Academic All-District Team, District 8, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The men had five of the 11 first team selections, while the women had three first-team selections, six on the second team and one third-team choice.

Portland senior Ryan Luke and sophomore Joe Sleven were first-team selections, along with Saint Mary's Doug Herrick, Justin Grider, and Dylan Leslie.

The Portland women (18-1, 6-0), which are currently ranked No. 2 with a nation-leading 35-match home win streak, placed five players on the squad, including all three of the WCC's first-team honorees. San Francisco and Santa Clara each had a pair of second-team choices while Pepperdine added one.

The Pilots, who clinched their fourth straight and 12th overall conference championship last week were represented on the first team by seniors Danielle Foxhoven, Elli Reed and Jessica Tsao.

Other WCC players on the second team are Portland sophomore midfielder Brooke Taylor; Santa Clara junior defender Margueritte Aozasa and junior goalkeeper Bianca Henninger; San Francisco senior forward Lauren Maris and graduate student Ashley O'Brien as well as Pepperdine junior forward Laura Cole. Portland senior midfielder Keelin Winters was selected to the third team.
