LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount women's soccer team will face Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, November 10th as the field of 64 was announced today. The Lions and Titans will play at 8:00pm at UCLA's Drake Stadium, while the host Bruins will take on UNLV at 5:30pm. Friday's game will be broadcast live on Lions All-Access at www.LMULions.com.
Tickets will be available at the gate. Adult tickets are $8, and student/youth tickets at $6.
LMU wrapped up the regular season with a 10-2-5 record, and finished fourth in the WCC with a 2-1-4 conference mark. Three teams from the West Coast Conference advanced to the NCAA Tournament - LMU, Santa Clara and Portland.
The Lions are playing in the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history. LMU earned its inaugural berth in 2002 when the Lions fell to UCLA 4-0 in the first round.
This season, LMU played six games against teams selected in the tournament. The Lions had a 3-1-2 record in those games, picking up wins over Oklahoma State, USC and Oakland. LMU tied Santa Clara and Portland, and one of its only two losses on the season came at Michigan.
Cal State Fullerton advanced to the tournament by virtue of winning the Big West Conference Championship. The Titans enter the tournament with an 11-7-2 record after defeating Cal Poly on Sunday to win its conference. LMU and Cal State Fullerton have seen each other once this season, playing a preseason scrimmage on August 17th.
UCLA, the Pac-10 champion, enters postseason play with a 17-3 record. The Bruins defeated Oregon State on Sunday to clinch their fourth straight Pac-10 title.
UNLV earned its berth after winning the Mountain West Conference Championship on Sunday. The Rebels topped Utah in penalty kicks to earn a spot in the post-season. UNLV has a 9-10-3 record entering the tournament.
The second round game is on Sunday at 1:00pm at UCLA.
