Nov. 6, 2007

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior forward Amy Epsten of the 12th-ranked University of San Diego women's soccer team has been named to Soccerbuzz's Elite Team of the Week.

Epsten, a junior from San Diego, Calif., tallied three goals this past week to help lead the Toreros to a 2-0-0 week. In Thursday's win over Saint Mary's College, Epsten tallied two goals to help lead USD to a 3-1 win. In the fifth minute of the match, sophomore midfielder Christine Mock was able to feed the ball to Epsten, who in turn corralled the ball and punched it past the SMC goalkeeper to give USD the early 1-0 lead. Then in the 54th minute of action, Leigh Ann Robinson rocketed off a shot that was saved by the SMC goalkeeper, but the ball bounced to Epsten, who was 14 yards out, and she in turn hit a laser strike into the back of the net to give USD a comfortable 3-0 lead. Then in Sunday's 1-0 win over Fullerton, Epsten scored her 12th goal of the season as Erika Wesley set up the game-winning score, taking the ball down the right side and sending a cross into the box that deflected off teammate Ashleigh Shoughro right to Epsten, who tucked the ball neatly under the crossbar from the top of the box for the game's only score.

USD will close out their regular-season at home on Saturday with a 7 p.m. West Coast Conference match at USD's Torero Stadium against the University of San Francisco.
