SAN BRUNO, Calif. - For helping Santa Clara University to its record ninth West Coast Conference title, Broncos' senior defender Marian Dalmy was named the 2006 WCC Player of the Year, while SCU Head Coach Jerry Smith was named the WCC Coach of the Year. Rounding out this year's conference awards were Loyola Marymount junior goalkeeper Joslyn Slovek taking home Defensive Player of the Year honors, and the University of Portland's Michelle Enyeart earning Freshman of the Year accolades.

Dalmy, who leads all WCC defenders with six goals and six assists, is the fifth Bronco to take home the WCC's Player of the Year award, joining former SCU standouts Leslie Osborne (2203), Aly Wagner (2001), Heather Aldama (2000) and Mandy Clemens (1997-99). Slovek is just the second LMU player to garner the conference's top defensive honor, joining former LMU great Tracy Sharp, who was named the league's best defensive player in 1998. Slovek is also just the third goalkeeper to earn the distinction, joining Sharp and Sue Wall of Santa Clara, who earned the WCC's first Defensive Player of the Year award in 1992. Enyeart is the eighth Pilot to be named the WCC's Freshman of the Year and the second in-a-row. She follows teammate Megan Rapinoe, last season's top freshman, and former UP standouts Lindsey Huie (2002), Christine Sinclair (2001), Michelle French (1995), Holly Pierce (1994), Justi Baumgardt (1993), and Shannon MacMillan (1992). For leading the Broncos to their record ninth league crown, Smith was awarded his WCC-record seventh WCC Coach of the Year honor. Smith previously earned the conference's top coaching honor in 2001, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1995, and 1992.
