Spokane, Wash. - Jessie Thalman of the Gonzaga University women's soccer team has been named to the All-West Region freshman team, as announced by Soccer Buzz on Monday.
With the selection, the goalkeeper becomes the second Bulldog to earn the national honor. In 2005, Lori Conrad also earned All-West Region freshman team accolades.
Thalman, who was also named to the All-WCC Freshman team, started all 20 matches in the net for the Zags. Thalman posted six shutouts and combined for two others, while holding opponents to 21 goals with an 1.09 goals against average, while posting 70 saves. Her six shutouts tied her for second on the all-time single season list and places her second in the career ranks. Thalman's 21 goals allowed is the third lowest amount of goals allowed in program history while her 1.09 goals against average is the second lowest.
The Bulldogs finished the 2006 campaign with a 10-9-1 overall record, including going 3-4-0 in WCC play, for a fifth place finish. The 10 wins marks the fourth consecutive year Gonzaga has finished with a winning record, as well as the fourth consecutive season with 10 or more wins.
