RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team posted a split in a pair of softball games on day two of the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Toreros picked up a huge 9-0 win over Northern Colorado in their morning game followed by a tough loss to host UC Riverside, 10-2 in the afternoon game.
In game one, San Diego held Northern Colorado to only two hits while recording 11 of their own on nine runs while committing one error. Jessi Waers pitched six innings striking out four batters and allowing only two hits before reliever Jennifer Ellenbeck came in to close the seventh inning.
Senior Danielle Treiber went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a homerun. Freshmen Keely Helbock and Jennifer Ellenbeck both finished hitting 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Carey Casciola, Kathleen Bonja, Keely Helbock, and Nichole Valenzuela all recorded a double for the Toreros as well.
In game two, USD was only able to record two runs and five hits against Riverside. Treiber finished 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. The other Torero to tally a run was junior Celine Pujol who pinch-ran her way to a run for USD.
Due to rain and poor field conditions, Sunday's games were cancelled. No all-tournament team was selected and USD's final game against San Jose State was called off. San Diego hosts their first home game of the season on Thursday, February 15 against CS San Marcos. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the USD Softball Complex.
