Offensive Outburst For Win Over UTEP

LAS CRUCES, NM - The LMU offense had 17 hits in an 11-0 win over UTEP in day two action at the Troy Cox Classic, hosted by New Mexico State. Three Lions were perfect at the plate in the game, and freshman Christine Foley hit her first career home run while going 4-for-4. Tiffany Pagano recorded the shutout for the Lions who have now won five straight.

After two scoreless innings, the Lions got four runs in the third. Back to back singles by Margo Pineda and Kylie Conroy set the stage for Foley to hit her first home run of the year, a three-run blast to left field. Chelsie Tysdal came home on an RBI single by MiaSarah Cesena to give the Lions a 4-0 lead.

After a scoreless fourth, LMU added two more runs in the fifth. Kirsten Slouber drove home both runs on a single up the middle, giving LMU a 6-0 lead.

The Lions scored another five runs in the top of the sixth. Tracy Cook doubled to lead off the inning, and would eventually score on an RBI groundout by Tysdal. Cesena drove in her second run of the day on a single, and Slouber brought two more runs in with a double to right centerfield. J.J. Hartung's first career hit drove Slouber home to give the Lions an 11-0 lead.

UTEP was unable to score in the bottom of the inning, and the mercy rule was enforced.

Pagano struck out seven and allowed six hits and five walks, but the Miners stranded nine runners in the game. UTEP had runners at third base four different times in the game, but Pagano stayed focused for her second shutout of the year.

Foley was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. Impressively, it's the freshman's second game this season where she has been 4-for-4 at the plate. She recorded four hits against Southern Utah last weekend. Foley is now 8-for-10 at the plate this weekend, with a home run, two doubles and six RBI.

Pineda and Cesena were both 3-for-3 at the plate. Cesena drove home two runs, and scored twice, and Pineda scored once for the Lions. Slouber was 2-for-5 with four RBI.

LMU has now won five straight games by a combined score of 30-10.

The Lions conclude play at the Troy Cox Classic on Sunday, playing Texas-Arlington and the host New Mexico State Aggies in back to back games starting at 9:00am MT.- GO LIONS! -
