SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team fell to cross-town rival San Diego State University, 8-0, Wednesday evening at the USD Softball Complex. The loss moves the Toreros to 9-6 while the Aztecs improve to 10-3.
The Toreros lone hit came from senior Marissa Merchain in the third inning when she doubled to centerfield. San Diego was not able to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Aztecs big inning came in the sixth inning when they scored four runs on four hits. Aztec freshman Erin Floros hit a two-run single to left field to start things off and increased their lead to 6-0. Floros was able to score a run on a Monica Alnes single moving the Aztecs ahead 7-0. The Aztecs final run came on a Taryin Casillas RBI double to center field capping the score at 8-0.
Senior Erin Harmonson records the loss striking out one Aztec batter in four innings of work snapping her five-game winning streak and moving her record to 5-3.
USD returns to action Thursday, March 9, as they travel to the Fresno, California for the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State University. The Toreros first game is against No. 11 Oregon State University at noon.
