SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego Toreros softball team (7-8) posted two losses Saturday morning against UC Riverside in game one 7-6, and against Cal-State Northridge in game two 5-2.
Against Riverside, San Diego tallied eight hits on six runs. Offensively for USD, Virginia Fritsch hit 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Kathleen Bonja hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Danielle Treiber hit 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Both Jennifer Ellenbeck and Fritsch recorded doubles in the game. However the Toreros were unable to pull out the victory.
In game two against the Matadors, USD and CS Northridge tied with eight hits a piece in the game. Despite committing three errors, Northridge still managed to post five runs in the game, three of which came in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Offensively against Northridge, Carey Casciola hit 2-for-4 with one run scored. Bonja hit 2-for-4 with one RBI while Fritsch finished 1-for-4 with one RBI. Danielle Treiber was the lone Torero to tally a double in the game.
Katie Jo Nelson picks up the loss striking out one batter in four innings of work against Northrdige. Christina Haake pitched 5.2 innings of work against the Highlanders and struck out three batters.
USD returns on Sunday for day three of the USD Invitational to take on the Lady Tigers of University of Memphis at 10:00 a.m. at the USD Softball complex.
