SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The LMU softball team dropped a pair of games at the Aztec Classic today. The Lions fell to Cal State Northridge 3-0 in the first game of the day, and dropped a 7-2 game to San Diego State in the afternoon game.
Tiffany Pagano struck out nine batters against the Matadors (6-5), but the Lion offense couldn't get things going. CSUN went ahead 2-0 in the second inning, and added an insurance run in the sixth. LMU got just one runner to second base in the game. Both teams had four hits, but CSUN got timely hitting to score three runs. Kirsten Slouber was 2-for-3 for the Lions against Cal State Northridge.
LMU got things going offensively in the second game of the day against San Diego State (12-3), but the pitching struggled. The Aztecs scored three runs in the top of the first and added two more runs in the top of the second. Krystal Kehr replaced starter Samantha Lavino and was able to slow down the San Diego State offense.
The Lions got on the board in the fifth, taking advantage of SDSU errors with timely hitting. LMU's two runs cut the SDSU lead to 5-2, but Lion errors in the sixth and seventh gave San Diego State two unearned runs for the final 7-2 score.
Both teams finished with 10 hits, but the SDSD pitching staff did not allow a walk in the entire game. Four LMU players finished with two hits.
The Lions (8-8) wrap up play in the Aztec Classic on Sunday, facing #25 Fresno State at 9:00am.
