San Diego Downed 5-2 By Memphis Sunday Morning

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team (7-9) fell to the University of Memphis, 5-2, on the final day of the USD Softball Invitational.

The Toreros posted six hits in the game and pushed across two runs early. In the first inning with Nichole Valenzuela on second base with a double, Carey Casciola hit a sacrifice bunt moving Valenzuela to third. Kathleen Bonja reached on an error allowing Valenzuela to score for the 1-0 lead.

San Diego then added a run in the second inning taking a 2-0 lead. The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead for the final.

Valenzuela hit 1-for-3 with one double and one run scored. Casciola hit 1-for-3 and tallied an RBI.

Jennifer Ellenbeck picks up her fourth loss of the season moving to 2-4 overall while striking out two batters.

USD returns to action on Wednesday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m. when they take on cross-town rival San Diego State in a single game.
