Softball Earns 7-1 Victory at Home

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team defeated the Georgia Southern Eagles by a score of 7-1 today. The aplomb Megan Galloway led the Gaels both sides of the ball. She earned the victory in the circle while scoring two runs on offense. The Gaels improved to 11-13 on the season and 6-5 at home.

Megan Galloway led the Gaels to their 7-1 victory over Georgia Southern. The righty threw seven innings and gave up only one run. Galloway did not allow a hit for the first three innings. In the fourth inning she gave up a single and a double which allowed the Eagles to score their only run of the game. After singles in the sixth and seventh, Galloway had earned the complete game victory, giving up one run and just four hits.

The Gael offense scored seven runs in today's game. Saint Mary's batted around in the second inning and sent eight to the plate in the sixth. In both innings the Gaels scored three runs.

Galloway led off the second inning with a walk. Freshman catcher Jenna Smith doubled in Galloway for the first run of the ball game. Kayla Aldridge struck out but hustled down the line and advanced to first base on a passed ball. Aldridge, who would have been the third out of the inning, would come around to score later in the inning. Melissa Barretto and Molly Bergeson would each drive in a run to give the Gaels the 3-1 lead.

Galloway led off the third inning with a walk. For the second straight inning she would come around to score. Galloway advanced to second base on a sac bunt by Chelsea Loftis. Galloway advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice by Sandra Ruezga.

The Gaels would come to bat again in the bottom of the fifth leading 4-1. Aldridge came to bat with the bases loaded and struck a single to score the Gaels first run of the inning. Ruezga would then score from third on a wild pitch. Bergeson singled to the second baseman to plate the third run of the inning for Saint Mary's.

Galloway would shut out the Eagles for the rest of the game en route to her second win of the season. The Gaels will return to action tomorrow when they face the Purdue Boilermakers at 3:00 pm from Cottrell Field.
