Softball Falls to Purdue

March 15, 2007

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team ran into a Purdue team that did everything right today. The Boilermakers scored 10 runs in the first three innings of play. The Gaels would go on to score 3 runs in the fifth inning, but it was not enough. Purdue won 10-3. The Gaels fell to 11-14 on the season.

The Boilermakers strung together a couple of singles while mixing in a few doubles in the first three innings. Before the Gaels could get into the fourth, Purdue had plated 10 runners.

The Gaels would keep the Boilermakers off of the board for the next four innings but could not manage to make up the runs needed to pull ahead of Purdue.

In the fifth inning the Gaels loaded the bases for pinch hitter Sadie Dolcini. Dolcini doubles a full count pitch into the fence in left center. She would clear the bases for the Gaels only three runs.

The final score ended 10-3 in favor of the Gaels. Molly Bergeson went 3-4 on the day and scored a run. She upped her season average to .439.

The Gaels will take a day off to prepare for this weekend's games. The Gaels will host Northern Colorado in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Gaels have a 1-2 record on the week and look to turn this around this weekend.
