Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Tiffany Pagano's one hit shutout set the stage for Chelsie Tysdal's two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as LMU downed Cal State Fullerton, 2-0, in game one of today's doubleheader at Smith Field. Pagano was phenomenal, going toe to toe with the Titans, but it was Tysdal who got the key hit of the game for the win. The Titans won game two, 10-3.

LMU wraps up non-conference action with a 27-14 record, while Cal State Fullerton moves to 18-15 on the year.

The Titans, who are receiving votes in this week's top 25 poll, struggled offensively against Pagano (10-8). CSUF got its only hit of the game in the third inning when pitcher Jessica Doucette chopped a ball over the head of LMU third baseman Tracy Cook.

Doucette (4-4) did a great job with the Lions, as LMU stranded just two baserunners in the first six innings.

With the game tied 0-0, it looked like LMU would be able to pull out the run in the bottom of the seventh. Margo Pineda led off with a single to left field, and was replaced on the basepath by Kylie Conroy who hit into a fielder's choice. With one out, Conroy stole second and was able to get to third when CSUF catcher Kiki Munoz' throw was off. Unfortunately, the Lions weren't able to get Conroy home and the game went to extra innings.

With the international tiebreaker in effect, the Titans bunted over the runner with the first out, but Pagano struck out Courtney Martinez and Lauren Lupinetti looking to end the inning and set the stage for Tysdal's heroics.

Pinch runner J.J. Hartung was placed at second base for the bottom of the eighth and she advanced to third on a sacrifice by Megan Ackerman. The game ended on a walk-off home run by Tysdal that was deep to left field. It was her fourth of the season.

Pagano finished with her fourth shutout of the season, recording six strikeouts with one hit. She walked five batters. Doucette allowed one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Game two started well for the Lions too. After a scoreless first inning, Conroy was hit by a pitch to lead off the second. With two outs, Ackerman hit her fourth home run of the season over the wall in center field to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

The Titans scored their first runs of the day in the third inning, taking advantage of an LMU error to go along with two hits to take the 3-2 lead.

LMU tied things up in the third. MiaSarah Cesena hit a single up the middle and stole second base. She came around to score on Pineda's chopper through the right side of the infield to make it a 3-3 game.

The Titan bats came alive in the fourth inning, as Martinez hit a two run home run to give CSUF the lead for good, 5-3. Fullerton added four more runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth for the final 10-3 win.

LMU starter Tracy Cook (0-1) allowed three earned runs on six hits in her first pitching appearance since May 12, 2006. She had three walks with one strikeout. Relief pitcher Tiffany Gonzales allowed five runs on six hits with three walks.

Titan starter Brooke Weekly (4-3) earned the win to improve to 4-3, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Pineda and Ackerman had two hits each, while Martinez led the Titans going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

The Lions will begin conference play on Saturday by hosting San Diego at Smith Field in a doubleheader beginning at 11:00am. The weekend wraps up with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon.
