Reno, NV - The Saint Mary's softball team finished competing at the Nevada Invitational with games against Nevada and Utah. Saint Mary's fell to Utah in the first game 11-0. The Gaels dropped their game to Nevada by a score of 8-2.
The Utah Utes used to two big innings against the Gaels. The Utes opened the game with a five run first inning and scored five more in the fourth inning. The Utes hit three homeruns in the game, including a pair of grand slams by Kara Foster and Tori Medina. Foster hit two homeruns in the game.
The Gael offense could not get things going in game one. Sandra Ruezga recorded the lone Gael hit as she doubled to right center in the third inning. The Utes threw two pitchers who managed to give the Gaels trouble. Both pitchers combined for five innings, no runs and one hit.
The Utes won game one by a score of 11-0 in five innings.
The Nevada Wolf Pack scored in all six innings they came to bat as they defeated the Gaels 8-2. Although game one was defined by the long ball, game two was station to station. The Wolf Pack strung together singles and doubles en route to scoring most of their runs. They did hit one homerun off the bat of Sara Hunt.
The Gaels will return to action next week to host Fresno State on Wednesday. Saint Mary's will then open conference play at home against Santa Clara next weekend.
