Stanford, CA -- The Saint Mary's softball team dropped a Wednesday night game to local power house Stanford. The Gaels managed to keep it close until the sixth inning before Stanford tagged sixth runs. The Cardinal defeated the Gaels 8-0.
Stanford's starter Missy Penna was nearly flawless today. The sophomore no-hit the Gaels in six innings of competition. She earned her 20th win of the season while striking out eight. The first strikeout for Penna was her 200th on the season, she now has 207.
Gael starter Molly Bergeson did her best to keep the Gaels in the game. She allowed two runs on three base hits in the first. For the next three innings Bergeson held Stanford to just two hits.
Marlena Green pitched in relief for the Gaels. She was effective in her first inning of work. Stanford got to Green in her second inning of work. Stanford strung together some base hits and plated six runs. This gave Stanford an 8-0 victory.
Saint Mary's will return home for their final home series of the season this weekend. The Gaels will host PCSC opponent Portland State. The Gaels will play the Vikings in two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The matches will begin at Noon. Sunday will be senior day. Four seniors will be honored before their final home game on Sunday.
