Softball Drops One-Run Decision To No. 5 Stanford

Stanford, CA- In the bottom of the ninth inning, Stanford's Lauren Lappin who was pinch running for Maddy Coon, who reached base on a double down the left field line, scored on a throw from first base to end the game with a 1-0 decision. Kate Albaugh started for the Gaels, throwing the first 6 1/3 innings from the circle, allowing one run on five hits and striking out two to tag her with the loss. After the night, Saint Mary's moves to 4-36 on the season while No. 5 Stanford improves to 32-8.

Offensively, Saint Mary's tallied three hits with sophomore Bronwyn Russell going 2-for-4. Senior Eleni Papailias (1-for-2) tallied the other hit for the Gaels in the top of the third when she singled to the short-stop.

Stanford posted one run on five hits with Anna Beardman and Maddy Coon leading the way going 2-for-4 with a double on the night. Catalina Morris (2-for-4) and Michelle Smith tacked on the other hits for the Cardinal.

Stanford's Laura Severson threw the complete game to improve to 6-0 on the season. She allowed three hits and fanned three while walking two.

Kate Albaugh suffered the win for the Gaels, throwing the first 6 1/3 innings from the circle. Chelsea Loftis came in for two innings of relief, giving up two hits and striking out two.

The Gaels will return to the diamond on Saturday April 22 when they host Loyola Marymount in a Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is slated for Noon from Cottrell Field.
