Los Angeles, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team dropped a doubleheader against the Loyola Marymount Lions. Today's match featured the top two teams in the conference. The Lions got the better of the Gaels by a score of 8-0 in both games. The Gaels fell to 23-31 overall and 8-6 in conference play.
The Lions got on board in the bottom of the first inning in game one. That was the only score of the game for the next three innings. The Gaels starter Megan Galloway kept the Gaels in the game until the fifth inning. The Lions added three runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning to give the Lions the 8-0 victory.
The Lions won the game both on offense and defense. Dykema, the Lions starter, earned her 22nd win of the season as she held the Gaels to just one hit. She allowed just four base runners throughout the six inning game.
The Gaels dropped the second game in a similar fashion. The Gaels gave up an early run but remained in the game until the fifth inning. For the second straight game the Lions scored three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning to win the game by a score of 8-0.
The Gaels ran into another tough pitcher. They could only muster three hits and were held scoreless. The Lions starter, Tiffany Pagano, recorder her third straight conference shutout and her fifth shutout in conference play. She struck out nine batters today.
The Gaels return to action tomorrow when they face the Lions for a second day of doubleheaders. The Gaels will look to even the series and remain in the hunt for the PCSC title.
