PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of San Diego softball team opened day one of a weekend series against the Portland State University Vikings with a 6-0 loss in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. With the Loss, San Diego drops to 20-19 overall and 8-5 in PCSC while Portland State improves to 29-14 overall and 9-1 in PCSC action. Game two of the series has been postponed.
In game one, the Vikings scored five runs in the first inning while the Toreros were shut out as Portland State pitcher Mandy Hill threw a no hitter through the first five innings.
San Diego's first hit came in the sixth inning when Alicia Massei led off with a single through the right side. Danielle Treiber followed with a single of her own, but San Diego would not be able to produce a run.
In game two, Portland State scored a run in the fourth inning taking a 1-0 lead. San Diego answered with a run in the fifth when Massei walked to start the inning and pinch-runner Celine Pujol later scored on a two-out RBI single by Ashlee Nunes. The Toreros would leave the bases full in the fifth when Kathleen Bonja struck out to end the inning.
Erin Harmonson records the loss giving up six runs on four hits, while striking out five batters in six innings of work. Harmonson drops to 9-10.
The game would be suspended due to inclement weather and has been scheduled to be completed at 10am Sunday morning at Erv Lind Stadium followed by the Sunday doubleheader.
