PORTLAND, Ore. - Kirsten Slouber hit her sixth home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Lions fell to Portland State, 9-3, in their season finale. With the win, PSU captures the PCSC title and advances to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Division I. LMU finishes the season with a 29-24 record, 9-11 in the PCSC.
PSU took a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by starting pitcher Mandy Hill. The Lions got one run back in the bottom of the first. Margo Pineda reached on a single and scored on a Darcy Pagnini RBI single.
The Vikings added an unearned run in the second to take a 4-1 lead. They would pull ahead more in the fourth inning, scoring three more runs to go up 7-1.
Megan Ackerman led off the bottom of the fourth inning with her 11th double of the season and scored on Pagnini's second RBI single of the day.
Portland State added another unearned run in the top of the fifth to make it 8-3, but Slouber closed the gap to 8-3 with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. It was her sixth home run of the season and the second in conference play.
PSU took a 9-3 lead on another unearned run in the top of the sixth.
Tiffany Pagano suffered the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and four walks in 1.0 innings of work. Samantha Lavino pitched the final 6.0 innings of the game, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks in her final LMU appearance.
The Lions conclude the season with a 29-24 record overall, 9-11 in PCSC play to finish fifth in the conference. Portland State finishes conference play with a 15-5 record, one game ahead of second place Sacramento State. PSU advances to the NCAA tournament for the first time at the Division I level.
