Gaels picked to finish sixth in PCSC

Jan. 10, 2007

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference preseason coaches poll, announced by the PCSC on Wednesday afternoon.

Saint Mary's junior second basemen and back-to-back All-PCSC selection Bronwyn Russell will be the Gaels top returnee. After leading the Gaels in nearly every offensive category last season, she looks to lead the Gaels to a successful season.

The Gaels also return Seniors Michelle Mathis and Lauren Mello; two everyday players looking to do big things in their final year in a Gael uniform.

The Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coaches have selected Sacramento State as their preseason pick to win the 2007 PCSC title.

The Hornets garnered four of six possible first-place votes and finished as the conference favorite with 24 total points, with 2006 PCSC champion Portland State just behind in second in the coach's poll with 22 points and the other two first-place votes. The Hornets finished second to 2006 conference champion Portland State by just one game in a race that came down to the final weekend of the season.

The Gaels will open their season on Saturday, February 10 against UC Davis at Noon from Cottrell Field.
